August 26, 2010

A new casino may be built in San Diego County. The La Jolla Band of Mission Indians recently had an environmentally study done. The tribe has released little information about the purposed project. However, the environmental study was publically released.

The project will be built on the tribe’s land on Palomar Mountain. The new facility calls for a gaming and hotel area of 480,000 square feet. The hotel will have 200 guest rooms and 6 villa suites. Gaming details were not provided in the report. However, by law the tribe may operate up to 2,000 gaming machines.

Previously, $22.6 million was given to the tribe in a bond for economic development. Under this bond, they may use the funds for construction. However funds may not go directly to fund the casino. This was done by the government as a federal economic stimulus package.

The estimated opening date of the new casino is January of 2012.
