In a vote by the State House, five new casinos have been approved. The vote was 65 to 50 in favor. The measure also allows for horse-racing tracks to operate slot machines, and a Chicago gaming facility. Locations for the new gaming facilities will be located in Danville, Park City, Rockford, and an additional site in south suburban Chicago. These facilities will be built on riverboats. Both the riverboats and the race tracks that operate slot machines will have to pay large fees upfront. The fees are expected to equal $1.5 billion. The money will go to pay debt of over $6 billion by the state. It is expected that the state could earn $500 million a year to pay for education and state construction projects.
