The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians are in negotiations with the city of Lansing to purchase land for the tribe’s new casino. Paperwork for the sale has been filed with the Lansing City Clerk’s office. The papers contain the details of the sale. The purchase price for the land in $1.24 million.

A vote was made previously by the Board of Directors for the tribe to pursue plans to build the Kewadin Lansing Casino. The casino project is estimated to cost $245 million. The project will create 700 construction jobs. As well as 1,500 permanent jobs for the community. The tribe is hopeful to begin working on the casino within a few months.

The Interior Department still needs to approve the plan before the project can move forward.
